5240 Vollsmose is a gigantic ornament that moves slowly around its own axis and communicates with the surroundings. During the day and night, the LED light will change in colors and intensity, and each string of the ornament can be controlled individually, bringing other patterns forward.

AirXY: From Immaterial to Rematerial combines real time visualization, sensors, light and sound. Large-scale screen and floor projections confront and engage visitors passing through the massive space. The screen is a clock and responsive real time capture of the presence of visitors while the floor projection gradually reveals a fleeting, ethereal architecture.

MESSAGE (Mobile Environmental Sensing System Across Grid Environments) demonstrates the potential of diverse, low cost sensors to provide data for the planning, management and control of the environmental impacts of transport activity at urban, regional and national level. This includes their implementation on vehicles and people to act as mobile, real-time environmental probes, sensing transport and non-transport related pollutants and hazards.

The Glass Bottom Float is a floating public robot with the mission of making the critical assessment of recreational water quality a transparent and participatory experience. It assesses the current state of the waters with a three-tiered sensing system informed by best practices of recreational water quality assessment science to create a probabilistic, qualitative measure of water quality:

  • established metrics (algae, chlorophyll, dissolved oxygen)
  • experimental metrics (near real-time in-situ e-coli, wave motion)
  • untested metrics (the presence and sounds of fish and crustaceans)
  • post swimming experience surveys

Extended Environments Markup Language (EEML) is a protocol for sharing sensor data between remote responsive environments, both physical and virtual. It can be used to facilitate direct connections between any two environments; it can also be used to facilitate many-to-many connections.

Anemograph responds dynamically to the weather. A wind sensor on the gallery roof registers the wind speed and direction and relays data to the control system that drives fans in each tube. The height of the floating spheres fluctuates according to changes in the speed and direction of the wind.
