Future Times is a data sculpture which visualizes 100 years of forward thought. Using web-crawls of Google News, Google Blog and Google Scholar, the phrase “in the future” was associated with keywords and phrases which reveal previous though about the future of our world. The top 100 terms for each year were categorized using the Dewey Decimal system, and mapped onto a grid. Holes were drilled into sheets of plexiglass whose sizes correspond to their frequency. For example, “war” is the biggest hole in 1945.

Constellations: design fiction about objects from the past 

AirXY: From Immaterial to Rematerial combines real time visualization, sensors, light and sound. Large-scale screen and floor projections confront and engage visitors passing through the massive space. The screen is a clock and responsive real time capture of the presence of visitors while the floor projection gradually reveals a fleeting, ethereal architecture.

Time Out of Place

“The Kings Cross area in London is rapidly transforming, creating a city in flux. Semiconductor have captured this moment in human history by documenting the day to day happenings in a short moving image work. The linear nature of time makes us have a very fixed experience of it; constantly stuck in the present.”

If everyone says time is relative, why is it still so rigidly defined? The current model is inherently poor at accommodating life’s unpredictability. Kairoscope looks at time from a human perspective: allowing people to coordinate events socially and on the fly, without worrying about precision.

The prevalence of cell phone use in Milan creates a way to estimate population movement in the city. Maps created from this data allow us to answer questions about where people congregate, for how long, and at what time of day. They show how people interact with the physical environment of the city.
