Design firm IDEO created a design concept for the future of self-service banking in hopes to put an end to robotic, inhuman experience of using a modern ATM. Starting from scratch, the company’s work has lead to a visually enhanced machine that is closer to human interaction.

The concept of the Dattoo arose in response to current trends towards increasing connectivity and technology as self-expression. The body would literally become the interface. The idea of DNA tattoos (Dattoos) is to use the body itself as a hardware and interaction platform. To achieve absolute personal identification, the hardware would capture DNA from the user’s body, enabling direct participation in the political and cultural landscape.

This articles seeks to support design that utilizes short-range RFID to develop innovative services by investigating how short-range RFID technology can be used by the designers in the conceptual phase of interaction design as a material for creating novel solutions.

In these experiments, the Touch Project, invented spaces, objects, movements and audiovisual techniques that map and visualise the interactive phenomena of RFID.

Envisioning Interactions in the Home of the Future

The resulting five projects envision the embedding of community networks into the home, a search, interaction across walls, lifestyle coaching, and interactive cooking.
